Eyelet is great for spring and summer pieces, but if not done right it can come off as a bit too sweet and girly. I (and Madewell!) like it with the unexpected pairing of camo to make it cooler and down to earth. When sneakers and raglan tops are done in eyelet it also pumps up this traditional fabric's street cred (I bet "eyelet" and "street cred" have never been used in the same sentence before)...
I've been on a major white kick lately and couldn't figure out what the catalyst was. Today I discovered the culprit...the Baldwin women's spring/summer '14 lookbook. They make all white (even nail polish!) look wearable and not too try-hard.
I like toning down this look by doing a heathered oatmeal and grey sweatshirt (this one is great, and a good stand in until I get my hands on a Baldwin one) instead of a white one. How great does it feel to wear new pieces out and about in the sun? I'll be around here a lot more now that the first busy few months of 2014 are wrapping up!
What other piece manages to be cozy yet somehow sexy, is appropriate for any occassion, pairs flawlessly with all black pants, jeans and skirts and perfectly layers under blazers and jackets? Black turtlenecks save the day all winter long. I like this thin cotton one and this thicker one made of merino wool.
My old brown leather oxfords (in the photo) have seen much better days, and I'm in need of a new pair. I love how versatile of a shoe they are for women, casual with cuffed jeans or with tights and a dress. Black or brown leather is such a classic choice, but the silver and leopard are total outfit-makers...I don't think you could really go wrong with any of these!
When I was in high school, my friends and I thought that there was no worse hairstyle than a middle part...we were horrified by the idea. Looking back now, what we should have been horrfied by was our own hair (lots of bad bangs and awful straightening jobs)! Middle parts are so good when done right, and I keep seeing ladies with great hair rocking them. Jenna Lyons signature is a severe, pulled back part and J.Crew models lately have had a range of middle parted styles from down and tousled to messy ponytails. It's hard for me to change up my lifelong side part, but I do love this look!
